# Signing In As Another User

## Overview

If your organization shares a single set of Pitchpoint credentials across multiple internal users or systems, the `useralias` parameter lets you sign in as a specific user without creating a separate Pitchpoint account for each one.

> **Warning:** `useralias` is disabled by default. Contact your Pitchpoint Account Representative to have it enabled for your account.

## How it works

Pass `useralias` alongside your shared `username` and `password` when [signing in](https://docs.pitchpointsolutions.com/developer_guides/authentication/access_token):

```bash
curl -X POST https://api.pointservices.com/user-management-services-ws/oauth2/002/signInWithPassword \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
  "username": "shared@username.com",
  "password": "sharedPassword",
  "useralias": "your@useralias.com"
}'
```

The resulting `access_token` is scoped to `your@useralias.com`. Orders placed with this token are attributed to that alias, letting you distinguish activity from different users or systems even though they all authenticate with the same shared credentials.

This is different from the [`X-PPS-UserAlias`](https://docs.pitchpointsolutions.com/developer_guides/headers/index/#x-pps-useralias) request header, which is an informational/billing tag and does not affect authentication.

## When to use this

- You share one set of credentials across a team, department, or set of internal systems, but want Pitchpoint to distinguish requests by the individual making them.
- You want per-user attribution on orders and billing records without the overhead of provisioning a separate Pitchpoint account for every user.
